Brahms + Beethoven

Sunday, April 16, 2023 | 3:00pm
Corson Auditorium

Kevin Rhodes, Conductor
Jeffrey Biegel, Piano
Jim Stephenson, Composer

For the close of our symphonic series we turn to the music of the traditional greats and a new great! Joining the TSO is one of Maestro Rhodes‘ favorite longtime collaborators, pianist Jeffrey Biegel, in a brand new work by this season’s composer-almost-in-residence, Jim Stephenson. Jim’s music has been played by the Chicago Symphony, the San Fransicso Ballet, the American Air Force Wind Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony, Boston Pops, Philadelphia Orchestra, Toronto Symphony, (and many more!) and we are thrilled to have the honor of presenting the 2nd performance of his brand new piano concerto!

As if that weren’t enough, NMC Choruses under the Direction of Jeffrey Cobb join the orchestra AND Mr. Biegel for Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy for Chorus, Piano, and Orchestra. Brahm’s heartachingly beautiful, powerful, and dramatic Symphony No. 3 puts the orchestra through their technical and interpretive paces, while American composer Samuel Barber’s beloved Adagio for Strings sets the lyrical tone of this not-to-miss concert!

Brahms, Beethoven, Barber, Stephenson
