Glenys Cowperthwaite

Violin

A longtime member of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra and Traverse City native, Mrs. Cowperthwaite holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Hope College and a Master of Music degree in violin performance from Ball State University.

Mrs. Cowperthwaite retired from the Traverse City Area Public Schools in 2006 as an elementary and junior high orchestra instructor. She directed the West Junior High seventh grade orchestras and ninth grade string octet for part of her career and the All-City Elementary Orchestra for her entire tenure.

Mrs. Cowperthwaite especially enjoys performing at the City Opera House which was designed by her great grandfather, John Wilhelm Jr.  He first had the idea for the building in 1890 and oversaw its construction the following year.

Mrs. Cowperthwaite attends yoga classes regularly, enjoys walking the hills near home and completing the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle.
