Margaret Beck is a graduate of American University, Washington, D.C., with degrees in performance and music education. While living in northern Virginia, she co-founded and is a past president of the Virginia Chamber Orchestra. In 1994 she retired as a tenured member of the Kennedy Center Orchestra and returned to Michigan to make her home in the beautiful Jordan Valley.
Currently she serves as Principal Viola of the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra (GLCO) based in Petoskey, of which she is a co-founder. Ms. Beck fills her spare time serving as principal viola with the Marquette Symphony Orchestra and performing with the Traverse Symphony Orchestra, the Gaylord Chamber Orchestra and the Gailliard String Trio. She has also been seen (and heard) in various ensembles representing the GLCO at civic events and in outreach programs for schools throughout northwestern Michigan.
