We have all heard Beethoven’s music, but what do we know about the man? This class will cover Ludwig van Beethoven the person, as well as the music. We will listen to and discuss several different works by Beethoven throughout his life. Join us to learn what to listen for and what makes the music of Beethoven so great!

The Great Pianist Composers
Instructor, Dr. Angela Lickiss Aleo
Here we have some of the most recognizable and influential composers who also used the piano as one of their primary instruments. We will examine how they used the piano in their compositional process and as an expressive tool in performing. We will also learn about their compositions and listen to some of the best pianists of the 20th century to highlight these composers.
Johann Sebastin Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Frédéric Chopin, Clara Schumann, Franz Liszt, Sergei Rachmaninov, and more.

Have you ever wondered what it was like to be at the premiere of some of the most influential musical works? In this class we will take a deeper look at five musical works and premieres that impacted the direction music would take for years to come. We will discuss the historical context and culture around these premieres and look at primary and secondary sources to give a broader understanding of the environment that these works came from.

The Many Musics of Mozart: Opera, Symphonies, and The Requiem

How did Mozart have so many musical ideas? And why are so many of them so good? Let’s explore Mozart’s life and music to identify what makes his music stand the test of time.
We will listen to and discuss several different works by Mozart over the course of 4 weeks.
